'A successful BIM adoption is more than software and training. It is a direct implementation of change management' We believe that a successful BIM adoption requires a new perspective. BIM is therefore in our view, not only the purchase of software and training to operate the software.

  • Mission

Why we wake up every day at Mister BIM? This question we have asked ourselves at the start of Mister BIM and we could really only come up with one answer. ‘Every day for us the beginning of a seven day weekend’. This means: Do what you feel comfortable and preferably happy. Personally, we believe that the current hierarchical way of "managing" is outdated and will disappear in the near future. This will make place for a cooperative and equal footing. And this will not be limited only to construction. But are organizations (and the market) ready for the new generation of workers and and their way of working? It is soon no longer that you have knowledge, it is how you are able to use this knowledge and the importance to add this in the whole chain.

It all sounds very attractive and is very easy: Working together: "We do that for years, no one works single-handed in our organization right?" Exchanging Ideas: "Of course, in fact, we meet every week with all managers. Listening: "We do that, we only have nothing to say too each other." Relationship with chain partners: "That's fine, we go for the cheapest, pinch them off and then they sit at the table early to give input into our project. So your organization is set to the basics of chain: “Yes, we work together, ideas are welcome, we listen and we have a relationship with our supply chain partners. Is not that what you mean?”

Is the "new way of working" not really just "normal" human and interact with each other? Treat someone how you want to be treated yourself? It might be the simplicity that makes it so difficult in an organization? The freedom to be able and allowed to develop! It all sounds very nice, but how on earth can you achieve this as an organization (management)? Emotional neglect is difficult to recover. What if an employee has been missing interaction, lacks the feeling to be important, cries but never comforted? That is difficult. Behind every worker is indeed a man with a family, a past, a future and feel.

Now you may be thinking 'where should this all lead to?'. We think that we have been clear in the previous. We at Mister BIM will look beyond just the software, hardware and training when introducing BIM. We want to support and guide organizations in obtaining a holistic approach where BIM is one of the means to ultimately achieve the results.

  • Welcome

Great that you found us. In the current BIM landscape there are many parties that are involved at the moment with BIM. Obviously there is great diversity between the parties, and we at Mister BIM can very well imagine that it can sometimes be a bit too much. The well-known ‘trees and the forest’ shall we say?

Now you will immediately think 'and what does Mister BIM better or different. "The company name Mister BIM says enough in our view. We eat, drink and sleep BIM. Our days are filled with picking, processing and testing of BIM, every day. Are we therefore different? We think indeed. We listen to our customers, we weigh the questions to the existing solutions and then try to provide. Based on experiences, the right advice and / or guidance. As previously stated these opinions go beyond just the technical part.

We will always be supported by parties who have knowledge and skills on the one whose expertise is needed at that moment. Aside we do not believe in the sheep with five legs. A flexible workforce which, when it is required, can be switched on. We do not want unnecessary costs (and pass) to people or resources that meant anything to the project. Adding and delivering value and a satisfied customer is our model!

    Remco Ooijen

Mister BIM is an initiative of Remco Ooijen. Before he started with Mister BIM he worked at another BIM office where he has been partner for almost 3 years. It was after these 3 years that he decided to go complete independentl. The name was quickly figured. The idea came from my customers. Thanks! The logo on the other hand took a little more time. We will save the explanation of the logo for a coffee moment.

Naturally, Remco also done something else. By pressing the button at the bottom of this page you will enter a detailed CV by Remco. This CV may also give a similar impression why Mister BIM arose. short summary, Remco has in particular a great need to not want to stand still. And generally it has to do with the incredible backlog in automation in the construction industry.

Mister BIM has a broad scope. We are therefore not like to be pigeonholed. We like to call us generalists with a great desire for specialization. In addition to the helicopter view we like to also descend to the screw and plug. This fact helps us to understand at all levels and to translate what is happening and what possible solutions are needed. And, as indicated earlier, we would like to use professionals through flexible deployment. Remco is not an draftsman, but certainly knows the various software packages and its operation. Advisory he will stand his ground. But when you have a project or development that must be supported by technical drawing during the maturation Mister BIM will enable the right people with the right background and knowledge. You also do not let the plumber installing an additional group in the distribution box? Everyone his profession, right?

  • History

    Mister BIM logo

    Introduction

A historical overview of the evolution, methods and concepts of software tools CAD / BIM for the AEC industry (Architecture, Engineering and Construction).

    The beginning of history

It all started more than half a century ago. In 1957 Dr. Patrick J. Hanratty worked at the first commercial software development, CAM (computer-aided machining). In 1963, the first CAD software with a graphical user interface was, "Sketchpad", developed by Ivan Sutherland at MIT Lincoln Labs.

In 1984, a Hungarian physicist smuggled two Mac computers into his country. At that time it was illegal in Hungary to have a personal computer. Through the programming language Pascal, he made helped by a teenager a 3D CAD program for the Mac. They were the basis for the company that still is known as Graphisoft. The Hungarian company Graphisoft, founded in 1982, launched in 1984, ArchiCAD, the first BIM software in the world, recognized in 1987 as a Virtual Building concept.

All this was a year after the launch of the electronic drawing board, 2D CAD Autodesk AutoCAD, which took place in December 1982. The technology GDL (Geometric Description Language) designed for this software, is still the basis of ArchiCAD models today. Metaphorically, we can say that in 1982 in Hungary, they took the model of the architect and put it on a computer, which the CAD / BIM ArchiCAD was born. This is in contrast to the V.S. where they digitized the drawing board to the computer, thus was born the 2D/CAD AutoCAD.

    The change

The transition from the drawing board, the Rotring ink pens, the carbon paper, the two-dimensional (hand) drawings and sketches to a digital environment was more or less a natural evolution. Of course, this transition was not without a hitch. Scales of drawings and no paper in your hands are a few of the examples of the issues when present.

We can now say that this transition process were all rite, in order to simulate a drawing board on the computer. Where the designers were looking for was a 1 to 1 conversion from the drawing board to the computer. However no one, except the visionaries, was willing to be different then. Even then people could see that this could produce better projects. In less time with fewer errors. The Virtual Building (VB) environment which ArchiCAD wanted to represent this change was, however, no one wanted to use yet. It was, therefore, for many easier to use 2D lines and arcs then to make a virtual model of the building, today, this idea seems unlikely, but it was the case (and today in many cases still is). Many users of software such as ArchiCAD or MiniCAD, which were more or less the same generation (mostly visionaries), using these tools, especially in the 2D environment so as to be able to connect CAD. Graphisoft had late 80s (last century) an advertising message, which clearly shows that they were far ahead of their time. It went something like this "Simulate the buildings and not the drawing board." Professionals only had to change the tool and could maintain the same concepts and processes, as applicable when using the drawing board.

    The new paradigm

BIM (Building Information Modeling) is the change that not came in the 80’s. The basis for the change of concepts and methods. To get where we are today took a total of 30 years. And then we talk only about very specific software development. BIM is not new even though this seems to many. BIM as a concept has been around since the late 40’s, when it was first presented at a university in the United States. Unfortunately, we see that after more than 50 years after its introduction, the construction sector, in terms of methods and concepts of design and the use of BIM software, are still at the beginning. At this stage of the adoption of BIM by the professionals, the issue is not which software (A, B, C, or ABC) should be used, the issue is more of a paradigm shift from CAD to BIM and how well we can establish.

    What terms

The 2D CAD is also within the spectrum of BIM, likewise also the other seven dimensions. BIM is more than just 3D designs. Below is a brief summary of the current seven dimensions of BIM:

-2nd dimension is considered the documentation.

-3rd dimension is regarded as the space.

-4th dimension is regarded as the time.

-5th dimension is considered to be the cost.

-6th dimension is considered operational applications, such CAFM Computer-Aided Facilities Management.

-7th dimension is considered for related applications such as contracts, purchasing, suppliers, etc.

    The key

Unfortunately this inevitable change only penetrated in education on a small scale, which the new generation of architects and engineers educate. We think that this new generation of young architects, engineers and contractors are the key players and will be able to stimulate education and beyond. It is fairly easy to change from a software product. Having the best and most advanced software product in the world, but only end up costing a lot of money and time to learn to use / manage this well. The most difficult part is to change people as they relate directly to their work and daily activities., their methods and attitudes. It involves placing people outside their comfort comfort zone. This may possibly even take generations before they will consider this change as commonplace. This change must be thorough arrested and that in our view, start at the current education programs and their curricula.

    The future

Hierover willen we enkel zeggen: We just say: BIM is not the future, BIM is today! The Future is Today!

    Conclusion

This article came about after a series of comments from various conversations that Remco was involved in. This in both the social networks, like Facebook and LinkedIn, as well as the personal and business calls. As usual, in these discussions about software products, called CAD and BIM concepts, you always end up in a passionate discussion which sometimes shrouded in misunderstanding. The conversations are often similar to those of a group of friends in the café or restaurant. Often end these discussions, as almost all threads, in talking about sports. Finally, the participants in the discussion party, often not based on facts, but choose purely on sentiment. This seems a natural process. Therefore, we decided to join those comments in this short article. Hopefully simple and easy to read and to understand, where we also briefly documented history of BIM. This article is not intended as an academic or scientific piece. The idea was to create a little order and clarity without too much deepen. This is for the historians among us. Our motto is "keep-it-simple". Talk from user to user, as we also talk among friends. Something like "BIM history for dummies" for dummies. Finally, we want to give you meditation like these two motivational messages:

    - "We can not become what we want to be by remaining what we are." Max Dupree.

    - "The biggest obstacle to change is us!" - Elizabeth Stilwell.

  • What we believe

    Mister BIM logo

Start with the end in mind.

BIM adoption works best as part of an overall business strategy

    Process for all

Automated processes take you just faster to the wrong solutions.

Selling the organization is as important as finding the right solution.

Creating Clarity on key business drivers is a must.

It is basically not about BIM tools, it's about the way you do business.

Great tool is most valuable for those who do not need.

BIM can change the customer experience and increase your profitability.

Process change begins with a process.

No two BIM implementations are the same, but they all have common characteristics, risks and rewards.

  • How?

    5 Stappenplan Mister BIM

A successful BIM adoption starts with a roadmap. Simple and clear are hereby the principles of Mister BIM. Proven methods the starting point. Mister BIM puts on no pilot, but guide organizations to the desired goals.

Mister BIM therefore has a proven methodology (the Deming circle - plan, do, check and act) converted to a five step plan. The five steps are basically the logical steps to ensure that the introduction of BIM is carefully thought out and gets a sustainable place. Moreover, the 5 step plan an amalgamation of many other methods, which will be deployed during the introduction. A customized implementation for the organization which obviously has the final result.

Mister BIM will also follow theory and practice merge closely. Both process and technology serve to strengthen and support each other during the introduction of BIM.

  • Why?

    Waarde creatie Mister BIM

Starting with BIM is starting a new future. Seven league boots do not exist and fragmented knowledge delayed. Mister BIM follows the optimal route enabling organizations to achieve faster results.

Nice words where we really try to give interpretations. Conscious attempt because we as Mister BIM can do our utmost to bring the organization as quickly as possible from A to B but we need absolutely need the support of the organization. It is, as with BIM, a collaboration that we enter with another.

  • Mister BIM Scan

The Mister BIM scan provides organizations to understand the managerial challenges that come on their path. The scan helps organizations effectively to get more insight into the bottlenecks within the organization or department(s). We believe that joint acquiring and sharing knowledge is the best way to improvement. As indicated earlier it is the belief of Mister BIM that BIM means more than just the introduction of a new piece of software and some courses. Nevertheless, organizations need to be escorted. Based on the scan can be viewed which subject or subjects will be first or only arrested. Beauty of the scan is that the organization does receive a complete picture.

To measure the extent to which the company is on track, has Mister BIM developed the Mister BIM Scan. This self-diagnostic model highlights all relevant management aspects, to a greater or lesser extent, play a role in the future development of each company (organization, strategy, legal matters, financial management, results and ratios). Each area there are several questions that measures various aspects the performance of the organization.

    Do the Mister BIM Scan

Depending on the availability of the necessary data, it takes about 1 to 2 hours to complete the scan. That's not much of a relevant self-diagnosis. It is highly recommended to scan, independent of management, to be completed by several key staff (Head of Finance, Human Resources, manager etc.) and explain the results. Perhaps these people have a very different picture of the organization than you, which may be a sign to the wall! The possibilities: - Scan to BIM Mister own diagnosis (free) - Mister Scan to BIM compiled by our results (€ 500, -) - Mister BIM Scan with a comprehensive report. We will be happy to make an appointment first.

    The Organization Analysis

One possible outcome could be after completing the scan that "all is well". That is wonderful! We recommend to repeat the Mister BIM Scan with some regularity It may also be that there are some weaknesses identified and is not clear what to do. Mister BIM consultants can come together to analyze the organization of the causes and make recommendations to address the weaknesses in a proper way.

    The Organization Improvement

After the analysis with recommendations to the proposals they can be imported. Mister BIM can guide you or guide the full implementation. Mister BIM is aimed that this process proceed pragmatically, always taking into account the opportunities within the organization.

The Mister BIM Scan will be offered online. Available as soon as possible Register here and you will automatically obtain a message when it is available.

    SCAN

  • BIM Quick Scan

We hope to provide more information soon. At present, we are not yet able to offer this service.

  • BIM Guidance

    BIM Guidance

Mister BIM is preferably no a temporary passant. Supporting organizations or projects after advice or encouragement is therefore Mister BIM cup of tea. Guidance can be used quite wide. From setting up a BIM project plan to organize multidisciplinary work with internal and external parties. Mister BIM will always look at successes from the past and reflect them on the question. This creates a solid guidance.

    BIM Leadership

For many organizations or project teams BIM is still an unwritten page. Taking the lead (director) in this new process can be difficult or not even desirable for organizations. Mister BIM can be noted. Both new construction and existing properties. At Mister BIM theory and practice go hand in hand.

  • BIM Advice

    BIM General Advice

There is a lot of fragmented BIM information for hands. Just the internet has thousands of hits when entering BIM in any search engine. What is it and what is absolutely not useable information? There are gray areas between the information flows? A total scope in which sound decision can take place is in many cases desirable. Finally it is a direct investment in people and organizations. Mister BIM provides the total scope.

    Specifically BIM Advice

Meanwhile, there are already quite a few organizations started with BIM. In many cases, they start-up with the new software. Some of these organizations experienced now that they are missing some puzzle pieces in all. In particular, discovering what is lacking can be quite difficult and time consuming. Yet equally independent of the possible solution (s). Mister BIM examines, advises and supports this.

  • Co-act

Mister BIM enjoys working with parties. Everyone has his or her specific skills or knowledge. In order to serve our customers best we put people at the right time and with the right background. We do not believe in large organizations where all the expertise is available under one roof. The customer basically paid thus indirectly also for the expertise which may not be used on his or her project at all. A flexible workforce with knowledge and skills effectively targeted if thats what prompted that moment.

At present, the following BIM Mister sustainable partnerships are:

    Transiro

    Transiro

Transiro is a word from Esperanto. A politically neutral international language which is spoken in more than 115 countries. By more than 2 million people It means: transition, crossing, bridge. A change is a transition from one to the other. We know as change specialists like no other that sometimes a figurative or even a ferry crossing is required to end up in another.

    Why Esperanto?

The main purpose of Esperanto is fulfilling a bridge between cultures. In this way, a person who speaks Esperanto gets the opportunity to experience the culture and customs of the country and its people by the people themselves. In organizations we speak of cultures. Cultures at the organizational level, company level, business unit level, department level, etc. In addition, often spoken in a 'language', which usually creates a gap and lack of understanding towards each other.

Transiro provides the bridge between the cultures in organizations. Brings cultures together, so that a higher efficiency can be achieved in the organization.
